Always Pray

I just read a great devotional this morning from "The Art of Prayer" by CJ and Shelly Hitz. Basically it encouraged us to pray at all times and to pray about everything. 

Why not? Jesus calls us friends; do we not share and talk with our friends about everyday life things? He invites us to do the same. 

The ideas I had while I read this were many. Here are some of my suggestions about praying at all times about everything:

Pray while:

• brushing your teeth in the morning
• eating breakfast or enjoying your morning coffee
• taking a shower
• driving to and from work 
• cleaning your house
• walking or hiking outdoors 
• when you lay in bed at night before falling asleep

We call these eyes-open prayers. 

The last one is my favorite. I seem to really be able to hear the Lord once I lay down.  My other favorite is driving to work in the morning. I pray for my coworkers, my family, my friends, and any other current issues I have heard about in the news lately. I also thank God in advance for how He is going to answer! 

What are some things you can pray about? 

Well, there's our government and the upcoming election. (WE SHOULD ALL BE PRAYING ABOUT THIS.) I'm praying specifically for:

• Godly leadership at all levels of government
• for safety for all candidates in the upcoming elections
• for honesty, transparency, and accountability for those involved in recent events
• freedom from corruption in our government and exposure (and real consequences) for those who are involved in it 
• for the freedom for everyone to be able to voice their opinions safely without violence or fear of retribution 
• for God to be honored by all who live in our country - for us to humble ourselves, repent, and seek His plan for everything

So these are the kinds of things that I am currently praying about at this time. I really encourage you to make talking with (and listening to) God part of your daily routine. It's helps us feel connected with Him and does amazing things! The best part is that He, the God who made Heaven and Earth, lets us participate with Him in the work He is doing here on earth. Isn't that amazing? Who's with me?
