100% Secure

Security. I don't think the average person feels they have much of it these days. We have access to TMI: Too Much Information. From our phones and televisions we get a daily bombardment of news of environmental threats, racial tension, craziness in the political arena, the latest flu epidemic, and so on.

What about you? Where do you find a sense of security? In what are you placing your hope? Finances? Relationships? Social Security? (I say that as I continue to inch closer to it... 😉).

All these things are good in themselves, and can provide us with some sense of security. But what about when your world falls apart? What about when someone you love dies? What if your identity gets stolen and you lose all your savings? Or the company you work for downsizes and tells you that your position is being "phased out"?

What then? What do you do when life falls apart?

Having walked through a few things in my own life (having grown up without knowing my biological father, having 2 people in my home addicted to alcohol, my oldest brother having manic depression, my mother being clinically depressed, recovering from sexual abuse, overcoming depression and anorexia, marrying later in life, having a child on the spectrum, and and more recently experiencing  the death of both of my parents and my oldest brother) I could have reason to say that there's not much out there that seems very secure.

But God...   In the midst of all the crazy things that are going on in this world, in our country, and in our own lives, our former pastor used to say, "But God..."  and he would show us how things weren't that different in Bible times.

Talk about messed up families  - the first family introduced sin into the world and had the first murder. Yikes. Or read up on Abraham, Issac, and Jacob's families in Genesis. Abraham was afraid for his life and lied about his wife twice, Issac showed favoritism toward Esau, Rebekah schemed to have Jacob deceive his dad and he stole his brother's blessing (who then wanted to kill him), and Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery when he told them of his dreams to rule over them. Not stellar by any means.

Or go to the New Testament - got skeletons in your closet? Jesus does, too.  Just check out his genealogy in Matthew chapter 1. In Jesus' family tree, he has deceivers (Tamar and Jacob), a detested foreigner (Ruth), a murderer (King David), who had another man's wife (Bathsheba), and a prostitute (Rahab), just to name a few. (FYI - this was scandalous to the Jews!!) Yet even his family here on earth reflected ours.

But God...

You see where I'm going here? No matter what your background, what you've done or haven't done, whatever life has thrown your way - there is only one who can promise us 100% security. God doesn't promise that we won't have pain or trials or issues or struggles with sin. We do. But, if you trust in the One God gave to save you, He promises to never leave you and to see you through this life (in all its craziness) and give you eternal life right now - a new kind of life that will see you into the next life as well.

God keeps his promises. He is great in His faithfulness, no matter what life brings. His greatest promise is that once we belong to Him (by believing in faith that His son, Jesus Christ died to pay for our sins), nothing can ever separate us from His love again.

Romans 8:38-39 says: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

That's 100% Secure.

Blessings.
