Reflecting God's Glory - Part II

Greetings,

In the last post we looked at how animals, the sky and other things in nature reflect God's glory. We can see his strength in majestic mountain peaks. We can see his gentleness in the wings of a butterfly. We can see his perseverance in the trees that stand when storm winds blow. What we see in creation can open our eyes to see how great God is.

But did you know we were created to bring glory to him, too? Human beings are the crown of his creation. We were made in his image and given the task to care for and rule over what he made.

How do we reflect his glory? I think in a couple of ways. First, we need to make sure we are in relationship with him. If we have accepted Jesus' death on the cross as payment for our sin, we belong to God and have his Spirit living in us. The Spirit is the one who enables us to bring him glory.

Next we offer ourselves to him and ask him to use us. If we are willing, he can. Often times the things God uses to help us do this are found in his word. It's important to read it to know what he wants us to do (and not do). Then there is prayer - time spent connecting with God. Not just asking for what we need, but learning to be in his presence. That's where we begin to reflect his glory. It's like having a toy we hold up to the light so it can glow in the dark. It needs the light to make it glow.

The better we get to know him and allow him to guide us, we can follow the Spirit to do the things that will glorify him the most. Sometimes it might be as simple as a friend coming to mind and having the feeling that you need to call them. When you make the call, you find that it was exactly what they needed. This brings God glory.

Or maybe you feel God directing you to volunteer to help fill a need that you just heard about. You feel a gentle nudge in that direction. Try it! God can use you if you are willing. And if you feel like you can't do it - all the better. We were never meant to live our lives apart from God. Ask him to help you. He is more than happy to - that's the whole idea. He created us to live in connection with him. It's through our active and healthy connection with him that his glory can be seen.

Blessings.
