Reflecting God's Glory - part I

Greetings.

Scrolling through some recent Facebook posts, I noticed some beautiful pictures of the sky. One of a sunset in Tanzania; another of a storm brewing in Soroti town, Uganda - that was really awe-inspiring. And one of a sunset over Lake Michigan. Glorious! It is easy to look at scenes like this and see the glory of God:

One of the things I enjoy most is watching some of the creatures He made. Horses kicking up their heels in a pasture, squirrels enjoying breakfast on a nearby tree branch, and ducks feeding in a pond. Animals and birds, along with the rest of nature, show God's glory through their beauty, detail, and ability. Through them, we see glimpses of what God is like. A solid oak tree that stands tall through all kinds of storms shows God's perseverance. The delicate wings of a butterfly reflect God's gentleness. The tallest mountain peaks reflect God's strength and power.

Even the scriptures testify to this. Romans 1:19-20 says, "...what may be known about God is plain to (us)...  for since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made." (NIV, italics mine.)

So we can begin to understand what God is like through looking at what He made. But what does the glory of God look like in us? Do humans reflect his glory? The Bible calls us the "crown of his creation".

If we belong to Jesus, the Bible says we are new creations. God now lives within us and can shine forth through us. He forgives our sin (we're all on death row without him), makes us new, and shows us how to live in a whole new way. Living in this new way brings glory to God. Do we get it right every time? Not always, but grace is there to pick us up and help us try again. And we know that no matter what comes, we have his grace and can never be separated from Him again. I love the saying, "Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven."

So what about you? Are you a new creation? Have you asked Jesus to forgive you and come into your life? If not, why not do it now? He died for our sins - you just need to trust and believe that he did it for you. And if you already have entered into a relationship with God, you are a new creation - so let your light shine!

More on how we do that next time...

Blessings.
