What Faith is Like
Today I'd like to share about what faith is like.
My mom died on December 18, 1995. It was sudden and unexpected, and I was with her when she died. Yet in the midst of such a frightening experience, God was there.
One of the EMT''s who responded to the call asked me if there was someone I could call. I told them I was living with a couple. They made the call for me, explained what had happened, and within minutes, Bob and Brenda were there.
I don't remember much of what happened the rest of that night, but I do remember Bob asking for my address book/phone list (this was before i-phones). He called everyone who needed to know.
From that point on, God carried me and my family through the next several days. People prayed. My dad and brother flew in from out of town. My two pastors left a day-long retreat to attend the funeral. Bob gave an amazing message. The prayer support was like a 1,000-foot thick foundation under our feet.
The girls I worked with came to the funeral, and instead of flowers, they brought a Precious Moments Figurine of a girl with an open umbrella pointed down that said "The Sun is Always Shining Somewhere". Isn't that so much like what faith is like? In the midst of our darkest days, we can trust that, like the sun, God is always there. Even if we can't seen Him.
In this life, we walk by faith and not by sight. Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we cannot see."
And 1 Corinthians 13:12 says, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." One day it will all be clear.
God is so good, and He is so faithful. Just like He promised, He never leaves us nor forsakes us - even on our darkest days.
Blessings.
Thanks for the reminder, Jill. So true. God is always there, always faithful. Praise God!
